A new kind of conversation about games in culture

Roger Travis

What XBox Live (or PC) games should we play on Thursday nights?

Here's what's in the rotation so far:

Left 4 Dead
Burnout: Paradise
Team Fortress 2
Halo 3
Castle Crashers
Carcassonne
Rock Band 2
Call of Duty (at this moment, I can't even remember which one we played)

I'm not at all wedded to these games, or, really, to the XBox Live platform, though I should say that I don't have a PS3, and so am pretty much restricted to XBL and PC. So what else should we be playing?

DOOM
Team Fortress
Madden (I haven't played this in years so it would be fun to play again)

I just got a PS3, so I wouldn't mind playing PixelJunk Eden and Little Big Planet, but yeah I prefer the 360 since more people have it--and I have no PC, just Macs.

You probably played Call of Duty 4, since almost everyone in the world owns that one and the other ones have spotty online.

From searching forums, it looks like you already named all the good 360 ones.

I do have Dawn of War 2 on a Mac partition, which is awesome online but kinda brutally difficult. There's always StarCraft!

Do we have enough people who would want to play Civilization Revolution? I think some shorter multiplayer XBLA games (Worms, Golden Axe, TMNT) might also be fun, though it might limit available players since not everybody has each of those.

I think most of us can hack 5 bucks to play these together.

We talked about Settlers of Catan. I'll trade wood for sheep with any of you.

I would like to give Little Big Planet a try, yes. Catan is fun, too; I hope I can remember how to play it! (I played the board game years ago.) And, for reference, we played CoD4. (I've been keeping a tally on the wiki page.)

In general, I don't have a huge desire to throw a lot more games into the mix, though. I'm the sort of person who likes to get to know a game, and I don't have much free time to play multiplayer games, so I'm just as happy to pick some good ones and stick with them. Left 4 Dead, for example, is a fantastic game, and VGHVI nights are about my only chance to play it; I'm still enjoying Burnout: Paradise, too.
